Jose Mourinho says that his table-topping Chelsea team may have to settle for a point against Manchester United this weekend.

The Chelsea boss was speaking at his weekly news conference before this Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford, a venue where the sides played out a dour goalless draw last season.

And Mourinho told the assembled media that, while he would be sending his team out to win, circumstances might dictate that they would take a draw.

“We go to every match to win,” said the Portuguese.

“But sometimes matches go in one direction and in a pragmatic way, you feel that one point becomes a good result.

“On Sunday we go to win. If you give me now one point and we don’t play, I don’t accept, I want to fight for three points. But during the game, sometimes a positive result is a point.

“Last year, the game was going in a direction that it was difficult for both teams to win the game. Both teams accepted the point as a normal result.”

Chelsea currently sit five points clear of Manchester City and 10 ahead of United at the top of the Premier League, having only dropped two points in eight games.

And with the Blues having scored 23 goals and United 15, it would seem that the odds are against a stalemate this time round.
