Juan Mata has thanked Chelsea’s travelling supporters for the warm reception they gave him during Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Manchester United.

The Spaniard lined up against his former club for the first time since completing his £37m transfer to Old Trafford from Chelsea back in January.

And the 26-year-old playmaker was grateful for the support he received from the travelling fans at the Theatre of Dreams.

Mata wrote on his blog: “It’s worth mentioning the Chelsea fans in Old Trafford.

“Their affection comforts me and, as I have said so many times, I will always feel grateful to them and to the club.

“I feel there is mutual respect and this is very important for me in all aspects of life.”

Robin van Persie struck a stoppage-time equaliser to earn a point for Louis van Gaal’s men after Didier Drogba had headed Chelsea into the lead early in the second half.
