Lazar Markovic determined to earn Liverpool place
Liverpool winger wants to help the Reds grow in confidence and consistency
Lazar Markovic is determined to impress Brendan Rodgers and earn a regular starting spot if the Liverpool winger is given a chance against Swansea City.
The Serbia international could feature against the Welsh outfit in the Capital One Cup fourth-round on Tuesday night after being omitted from the Liverpool manager’s starting line-up since a 1-0 loss to Basel.
My targets and ambitions for this season haven’t changed
And Markovic, who completed a £20m move to Anfield from Benfica in the summer, wants to help the Reds gain confidence and consistency after a difficult start to the season.
“I have to play well and in doing so earn a place in the team – and hopefully the Swansea game is an opportunity for me to show what I can do,” Markovic told Liverpool’s website.
“My targets and ambitions for this season haven’t changed since I joined the club, and I still have the same drive and motivation.
“Swansea are a good team. I’ve watched them a few times. It is going to be a difficult game but I am confident we can get the win.
“The League Cup is an important competition, as well as any other the club are competing in.
“It’s evident we haven’t been consistent up to now, but I feel that our up and coming games are an opportunity for us to gain composure, confidence and consistency.”
