Phil Thompson has branded Mario Balotelli “disrespectful” after the Liverpool striker swapped shirts with Pepe at half-time of their 3-0 defeat by Real Madrid.

The Italy international was a periphery figure for the home side at Anfield as los Blancos stormed into a 3-0 lead courtesy of Cristiano Ronaldo’s brilliant strike and Karim Benzema’s 11-minute brace.

Rodgers hauled his £16m summer signing off at the interval following an ineffectual opening 45 minutes, and Liverpool managed to complete the Group B fixture without conceding any more goals.

When asked for his view on Balotelli’s shirt swap, Rodgers replied: “Well that is the first I head of it. I wouldn’t like it either. It is something I don’t like to see. I’ve seen it happen in other leagues.

“It certainly something that doesn’t happen here. We had an incident with a player last year that I dealt with.

“If that is the case, I’ll deal with this as well.”

And Thompson, who won three European Cups during his Liverpool career, blasted Balotelli for showing no respect.
