Jamie Redknapp claims Liverpool supporters should be blaming Brendan Rodgers and not Mario Balotelli for the striker’s poor start.

The 24-year-old striker was unable to test the Real Madrid defence in the Champions League clash, prompting Rodgers to replace misfiring Balotelli at half-time.

Why on earth they went for him I’ll never know. They should’ve just left him alone

The former Manchester City forward has scored one goal in 10 appearances in all competitions following his £16m move to the Merseyside outfit from AC Milan.

And former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp reckons Rodgers was naïve to think he could get the best out of Balotelli after the likes of Jose Mourinho and Roberto Mancini gave up on the Italian.

“I don’t blame Mario Balotelli, I blame Brendan Rodgers for bringing him here. How he thought he could turn around a player who Mourinho, Mancini and Prandelli have all washed their hands of,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“There’s a reason when you go to the supermarket and something is half price.

“Why on earth they went for him I’ll never know. They should’ve just left him alone. The fact that they went and got him, it just doesn’t make any sense to me.”
