‘Liverpool should have replaced Luis Suarez with Radamel Falcao’
Dominic Matteo can't understand why Liverpool didn't try to sign Manchester United man
Liverpool should have signed Radamel Falcao to replace Luis Suarez, according to Dominic Matteo.
The Colombia international moved to Manchester United on a season-long loan in the summer transfer window, with the option to make the deal permanent.
Liverpool should have tried to sign someone like Falcao. We had the money
Liverpool, meanwhile, signed Italy international Mario Balotelli following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona in a £75m deal.
Balotelli has scored one goal in 11 appearances for the Reds, whilst Falcao has netted one goal and made two assists in five league games.
And former Liverpool defender Matteo can’t understand why Rodgers didn’t use the funds raised by Suarez’s sale to launch a bid for Falcao.
“It’s difficult to replace Luis Suarez, but Brendan should have tried to replace his goals,” Matteo told talkSPORT.
“Liverpool should have tried to sign someone like Falcao. We had the money.
“Liverpool have not bought particularly well. People thought signing Mario Balotelli for £16m was a good buy, but he hasn’t produced [the goods].
“Liverpool needed to get a player who was guaranteed to score 20 to 30 goals a season. That’s what they’re lacking at the moment.”
