‘Liverpool squad will trust Mario Balotelli more after cup goal’
The former Liverpool manager wants to see greater work-rate from the Italian
Roy Evans believes the Liverpool squad will start to trust Mario Balotelli more after the striker’s goal in the League Cup on Tuesday.
The Italy international came on as a second-half substitute to instigate a comeback as the 24-year-old cancelled out Marvin Emnes’s opener in the 86th minute.
I think the players were starting to lose a bit of trust in Mario
Swansea City defender Federico Fernandez received his marching orders early in added time before Dejan Lovren headed a late winner in the fourth-round tie.
And former Liverpool manager Evans wants Balotelli to show a 100 per cent work-rate in every game after the £16m signing’s slow start to the season.
“He has had a few chances over the last few games, so it was nice to see him put one in the back of the net. That will be good for his confidence and the team’s as well,” Evans told talkSPORT.
“His work rate on the pitch hasn’t been good enough. The one thing you must always give as a footballer is 100 per cent.
“I think the players were starting to lose a bit of trust in Mario, but scoring a goal last night will hopefully bring that back.
“I hope it takes him and the team forward.”
