Louis van Gaal has hit out at Robin van Persie for the striker’s “stupid” goal celebration during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday.

The Netherlands international salvaged a point for the Red Devils when he drilled in an equaliser deep into stoppage time at Old Trafford after Didier Drogba had given the visitors the lead.

Van Persie removed his shirt during his celebration and was shown a yellow card by referee Phil Dowd.

And the United boss was less-than-impressed after seeing the striker pick up a needless caution.

“You can see he had a stupid reaction after the goal,” Van Gaal said after the game.

“You can be excited, but you don’t have to pull your shirt off because then you get a yellow card.

“It’s not so smart.”
