Sir Alex Ferguson is adamant that Louis van Gaal is the right man to lead Manchester United back to glory.

The Dutchman was appointed as Red Devils boss on a three-year contract over the summer after David Moyes was sacked following his doomed spell in charge at Old Trafford last season.

United struggled in the first few weeks of the season and are currently eighth in the Premier League table, 10 points behind leaders Chelsea.

However, Ferguson – who called time on his 26-year reign at Old Trafford in the summer of 2013 – is adamant that Van Gaal is the right man for the job.

“You can’t get consistency or results until you get a regular back four,” said Ferguson.

“[Luke] Shaw and [Marcos] Rojo are young, Rafael is the only player with experience.

“Absolutely [Van Gaal is the right man]. No doubt in my mind he’s the right man for the job‎.”
