Luis Suarez has backed Brendan Rodgers to achieve success at Liverpool.

The Reds finished as Premier League runners-up last season after the 27-year-old striker scored 31 goals in 33 top-flight games.

He [Gerrard] is such a leader, such an inspiration – Liverpool are very fortunate to have had him for his entire career

Liverpool have managed to secure just three wins in seven outings following the Uruguay international’s £75m move to Barcelona in July.

But Suarez, who scooped the PFA player of the year award in April, is confident Rodgers will taste even more success at Anfield.

“Brendan Rodgers has great ideas,” Suarez told Shortlist magazine.

“I said when I left the club that I was leaving them in good hands, and I am sure he will be even more successful than he has been.”

Suarez added that he would love to play with Liverpool captain Gerrard in La Liga.

“I don’t think the fans would have been happy if I had taken their players, but every team could use Steven Gerrard,” Suarez added.

“He is such a leader, such an inspiration – Liverpool are very fortunate to have had him for his entire career.”
