Manchester United are close to being feared again thanks to Louis van Gaal’s impact at Old Trafford, according to Jamie Redknapp.

The Red Devils face their sternest test of the Premier League season and the Dutchman’s fledging reign so far as Chelsea come to Old Trafford on Sunday.

United are unbeaten in their last three games following a 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns last Monday.

And former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp reckons the Red Devils are on the road to recovery, boasting the likes of Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao in their ranks.

“Under Louis van Gaal, though, it feels like United are getting closer to being a side to be feared again,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“There were signs against West Brom, especially when they got back to 1-1, that they were controlling the game and there was some great attacking play.

Mistakes at the back are still costing them but they are taking steps forward.”

United are eighth in the Premier League table, 10 points behind leaders Chelsea.
