Man United saved their best performance for Chelsea, says Gary Neville
Manchester United legend was impressed by Louis van Gaal's side against Chelsea
Gary Neville praised Manchester United’s best performance of the season after a 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday.
Netherlands international Robin van Persie scored a stoppage-time equaliser to cancel out Didier Drogba’s 53rd-minute opener at Old Trafford.
I thought they were fantastic in the first half and they genuinely caused Chelsea problems
The Red Devils had 19 attempts during the encounter with the league leaders, forcing Thibaut Courtois into a number of top-class saves.
And former United defender Neville reckons Van Persie’s late strike will provide the 20-time English champions with a huge boost.
“It’s a big goal for United,” Neville told Sky Sports’s Super Sunday.
“They’d have been deflated – because they did play well in the game – to come out and lose. It will feel like a win.
“The performance level, forget the result, but the performance level was a higher level than Manchester United have produced all season against an excellent team; the best team in the league.
“They had to step up a level today and they did. I thought they were fantastic in the first half and they genuinely caused Chelsea problems.”
United make the trip to bitter rivals Manchester City next weekend.
