Radamel Falcao’s father has revealed that the Manchester United striker has English heritage and once applied for a British passport.

The Colombia international scored his first goal for United since his season-long loan move from Monaco before the international break in the 2-1 win over Everton at Old Trafford.

And it has emerged that the striker’s great-grandfather was from north Yorkshire.

“I’m very proud of my English blood,” Radamel Snr told the Daily Mail in an exclusive interview.

“My grandfather was English and also a sportsman.”

He added: “Falcao was probably about 13 so I went down to the embassy thinking that a British passport would help him with a move to Europe. But unfortunately it got rejected.”
