Manuel Pellegrini is not counting on a repeat of last season’s comfortable victories when his Manchester City side face Tottenham this weekend.

Spurs travel to the Etihad Stadium for Saturday’s early kick-off, having shipped 11 goals in the two games between the clubs last season.

But speaking at his pre-match media conference, the City manager was full of praise for this season’s White Hart Lane outfit.

“I am sure it is a different Tottenham,” Pellegrini said.

“Last year one of the best games that we played was against Tottenham away. Here also we played very well, but we are not expecting that we can score six or five goals every time we play Tottenham. They are a very strong team.”

Pellegrini also offered paid tribute to his fellow South American, Mauricio Pochettino, as the Argentinian looks to turn around Tottenham’s fortunes against the Citizens.

“He is a young manager that was very successful in Spain with Espanyol, it was a team that always played good and attractive football and it was a creative team,” added the Chilean.

“He is trying the same way he did it last season at Southampton. That was a team that played very well, he continues now at Tottenham that is an important club with big players.”
