Mourinho delivers latest Chelsea injury update after Maribor win
Injury problems mount for Chelsea ahead of Manchester United showdown
Diego Costa is likely to miss Chelsea’s trip to Manchester United as he continues to struggle with a hamstring injury, Jose Mourinho has revealed.
The 25-year-old Spain international missed Saturday’s win over Crystal Palace and also sat out Tuesday’s 6-0 win over Maribor due to the problem.
Loic Remy is also likely to be out of action after picking up a muscular injury early on in the Champions League rout at Stamford Bridge.
Asked if he expects Remy to be fit for Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford, Mourinho replied: “No, I don’t expect.”
And when quizzed as to whether Costa would be available, he added: “No.
“Loic Remy has a problem in his groin, I don’t know. Normally a muscular problem is a muscular problem so a couple of weeks. I don’t know the dimension [of the injury] and I’m not worried. When a player is injured, play another one.”
He continued: “Tomorrow [Wednesday] is a day off and the doctor is forbidden to call me to speak about injuries. I don’t want to speak about injuries, Manchester United. I don’t want to know.
“We don’t cry on injuries. It’s our philosophy, we don’t cry. We just think one injury means an opportunity for somebody else.
“We cannot hide. In this moment we have some problems with players that are not available to play. We will prepare the game Thursday, Friday, Saturday to try to be at our best possible level against an opponent which we respect very, very much.”
Mourinho was forced to call on veteran striker Didier Drogba on Tuesday night, and may have to do the same at Old Trafford.
He added: “I was not expecting Didier [Drogba] to play for 75 minutes but he had to come on.
“Now he has to improve his condition, we know the player he is and we know he can still give us a lot.”
