Mourinho delivers latest Chelsea injury update ahead of Man United clash
Loic Remy is out, but Diego Costa could face Manchester United on Sunday
Jose Mourinho says there is a “little chance” that Chelsea striker Diego Costa could be fit to face Manchester at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Spain international missed Chelsea’s victories over Crystal Palace and Maribor due to a hamstring injury which he aggravated on international duty.
Everything has happened to him. He was obviously injured [hamstring] and he had to go to the hospital with a viral situation
However, it transpired the £32m summer signing, who has already scored nine goals in seven Premier League games, was also hospitalised during the week after contracting a virus.
Mourinho revealed that Costa trained away from the rest of the Chelsea squad on Friday, adding that the 25-year-old’s illness has hampered his bid to be fit for the United clash.
“He has a chance. He has a little chance,” Mourinho told his pre-match media conference.
Mourinho continued: “Yes [he was hospitalised]. Everything has happened to him. He was obviously injured [hamstring] and he had to go to the hospital with a viral situation that we didn’t manage to resolve without being in hospital over one night.
“I think it happened before Maribor. But he wouldn’t have been ready from his injury. The problem is being ill didn’t help his recovery. All the treatment he did was the medical staff going to his house because we didn’t want to bring him here.”
Mourinho added that John Obi Mikel and Ramires have a shot at featuring against the Red Devils, and also revealed that Loic Remy is set to be sidelined for two weeks.
“Remy no chance. Diego has a little chance the same as Mikel and Ramires. The only one I can confirm has no chance is Remy,” Mourinho added.
“I would say for two or three weeks, Remy is out.”
