Wojciech Szczesny has flown to Rome to enjoy some down time after the goalkeeper kept a clean sheet as Arsenal were 2-0 winners at Sunderland.

£35m summer signing Alexis Sanchez scored either side of half-time to help the north London side claim three points at the Stadium of Light.

And Arsenal number one Szczesny posted a photo of the Poland international posing with his popstar girlfriend Marina Łuczenko.

Szczesny wrote: “Rome with @marina_official”

Mirroring her beau’s status, Łuczenko said: “Spontaneous #Rome with my babe!

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was quick to praise the Gunners after their big win at Sunderland.

“You could feel that we had a lot of the ball and Sunderland were focused on defending very well,” Wenger told BBC Sport.

“They came out with more purpose in the second half but on the break we had many chances. We played away on Wednesday and again today so what was most important was the points. In life you can always improve but what was important for us today was to get the three points and keep a clean sheet.”
