Chelsea legend praises the Blues's spirit during their League Cup win
Didier Drogba hailed Chelsea’s “great spirit” after the Blues eased to a 2-1 victory over Shrewsbury Town in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.
The 36-year-old, who captained Chelsea for the fourth-round tie as Terry dropped to the bench, broke the deadlock with a brilliant 48th-minute strike.
However, the League Two opponents struck back with 13 minutes remaining through second-half substitute Andy Mangan, who finished from close range.
But Jose Mourinho’s side restored their lead with nine minutes remaining when Jermaine Grandison inadvertently directed Willian’s cross into his own net.
And Chelsea legend Drogba revelled in the west London side’s victory in the fourth round against difficult opposition.
Drogba wrote on Instagram: “Difficult conditions, great opposition team but we still showed great spirit to qualify for the next round. Well done to @oscar_emboaba @johnterry.26 @hazardeden_10 @domsolanke @willianborges88 @petrcech @mosalah22 @andreschuerrle @filipeluis”
Drogba has scored in three successive games after netting against Maribor and Manchester United over the past week.
