Steven Gerrard has heaped praise on Liverpool goal-scorers Mario Balotelli and Dejan Lovren after a thrilling 2-1 comeback against Swansea City.

Brendan Rodgers’s looked to be heading out of the Capital One Cup at the fourth-round hurdle when Marvin Emnes broke the deadlock in the second half.

However, Italy international Balotelli ended his eight-game goal drought to draw the Reds level with four minutes of normal time remaining.

Swansea defender Federico Fernandez was sent off in stoppage-time before Lovren headed a winner in the fifth minute of added time at Anfield.

And Liverpool captain Gerrard took to Instagram to pay tribute to the Reds’s League Cup saviours after a thrilling comeback at Anfield.

“Well done lads @mb459 @dejanlovren06” Gerrard posted on Instagram.

Gerrard is bidding to win the League Cup for the fourth time in his career after previously winning the competition in 2001, 2003 and 2012.

The Reds skipper is the only player to have scored in a goal in an FA Cup final, a League Cup final, a Uefa Cup final and a Champions League final.
