Photo: Liverpool legend Luis Garcia returns to Anfield with his son
Spanish scorer of 'ghost goal' against Chelsea in 2005 posts Instagram photo of his son at Anfield
Luis García has clearly lost none of his love for former club Liverpool, to judge from his recent offerings on social media.
The Spaniard, who recently came out of retirement to play for Atletico de Kolkata in the Indian Super League, famously scored Liverpool’s ‘ghost goal’ in their Champions League semi-final against Chelsea in 2005.
And a few days after retweeting a picture of Anfield with a message “Miss that beautiful carpet”, the ex-Reds playmaker was at it again on Instagram.
Alongside a photo of his son Joel stretching up towards the famous ‘This is Anfield’ sign in the players’ tunnel, García wrote:
“He always teach me something. Do what it takes to reach your dream!!! #thisisanfield #dreamer #joel #myworld #myeverything”
García scored 18 goals in 77 games for Liverpool, having signed for the club under Rafael Benitez during the same transfer window as Xabi Alonso.
But it is the decisive semi-final goal that remains the only topic of conversation when he meets fans around the world.
“I can be anywhere and everywhere in the world and someone will ask, ‘Was it a goal?’,” Garcia said recently.
“For me, it was, and the referee gave it.”
Liverpool travel to Newcastle in this Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off.
