Liverpool forwaard appears to be in a good mood ahead of Newcastle clash
Raheem Sterling is all smiles ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Newcastle United on Saturday.
The 19-year-old didn’t feature in the 2-1 win against Swansea City on Tuesday night as Liverpool left it late to book their place in the Capital One Cup quarter-finals.
Sterling has been one of Brendan Rodgers’s top performers in the opening months of the season, scoring three goals in nine Premier League appearances.
And the Reds forward is clearly in a good mood ahead of their difficult games against Alan Pardew’s unpredictable Newcastle side at St James’s Park.
Last week, QPR youth coach Keith Gallen revealed Arsenal and Chelsea turned down the chance to sign Sterling.
“Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, they all knew about Raheem. But their attitude was: ‘Too small, too much baggage’,” Gallen is quoted as saying by London24.
“At the time, I wanted him to stay at QPR. I persuaded the reserves to give him his debut at 15 so he’d feel he was being fast-tracked. But at one meeting, after training, Raheem said ‘Steve, I have to go’.
“I could see how genuinely upset he was and I thought, ‘I can’t do that to a kid’, so we reluctantly agreed to listen to offers.
“Now, with hindsight, I can see it was the right thing for him to leave, as much for a change in environment off the pitch.”
