Robin van Persie has taken to Instagram to thank Manchester United’s fans for their support after his late goal earned a draw against Chelsea on Sunday.

The Dutchman drilled home from close range deep into stoppage time at Old Trafford after the Blues had taken the lead thanks to Didier Drogba’s goal early in the second half.

And the United forward was clearly delighted to have netted the crucial leveller for Louis van Gaal’s side.

Van Persie posted the picture above on Instagram and wrote: “Amazing atmosphere at the theatre of dreams today thanks so much for all the support!

“Great game of football we are looking forward to our next game! @manchesterunited”

Captain Wayne Rooney, who missed the game through suspension, added on Facebook: “A good point today in a tough game. A big week of training ahead now before next week’s derby!”
