Mario Balotelli took part in Liverpool training on Thursday less than 24 hours after the 3-0 Champions League defeat by Real Madrid.

The striker was substituted at half-time as Brendan Rodgers’ men slumped to a comprehensive loss to the holders on Merseyside.

But the Italian was back in action as Liverpool begun their preparations for the Premier League clash with Hull City at Anfield on Saturday.

Also in action at Melwood were Emre Can, Lazar Markovic and Rickie Lambert. Midfielder Lucas Leiva was another player involved in Thursday’s session.

Liverpool head into Saturday’s clash at Anfield fifth in the Premier League table on 13 points, after eight games of the season.
