Juan Mata will have a point to prove when Chelsea make the trip to Manchester United on Sunday.

The Spain international was deemed surplus to requirements in January, prompting a £37.1m switch to the 20-time English champions from Chelsea.

Mata was the first big-name through the Old Trafford door ahead of a summer of huge spending as United recruited Angel di Maria, Radamel Falcao and Daley Blind.

The World Cup winner has already scored eight goals in 21 Premier League appearances for United, although the 26-year-old is yet to face his former club since moving to Manchester.

Meanwhile, British record-signing Di Maria will come up against his former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho for the first time since the Portuguese coach left the Spanish capital.

“If I bought Di María, it was because I liked him. He was fantastic in my period at Real Madrid. Now, he plays for Manchester United,” Mourinho said of Di Maria.

“But for the next 90 minutes, I want to win, he wants to win.”
