Mauricio Pochettino believes Tottenham Hotspur have a realistic chance of winning the Capital One Cup.

Spurs were rewarded for a 2-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion with a quarter-final clash against Newcastle United in the League Cup.

And Pochettino, who replaced Tim Sherwoord earlier in the summer, is delighted to see his north London side progress to the next round.

“Getting into the quarter-final was the objective, so we are happy,” Pochettino said. “All potential trophies are realistic for us [to win].

“We played very well and created a lot of chances. After Sunday it was difficult as we played well but didn’t make the chances.”

Erik Lamela scored his second goal of the past week as the Argentina international broke the deadlock early in the second half.

And Harry Kane, who scored a hat-trick in the Europa League last week, sealed a 2-0 win against Sami Hyypia’s side.

Lamela wrote on Instagram: “Happy for the win and advance to quarterfinals #COYS #TOTTENHAM #SPURS”
