Carlo Ancelotti has claimed that Angel Di Maria’s wage demands were the main reason behind his transfer from Real Madrid to Manchester United.

The Argentina international joined the Red Devils for a club-record £59.7m fee over the summer after Real opted to sell the 26-year-old.

And Madrid boss Ancelotti says that Di Maria’s high financial demands were behind his exit from the Bernabeu.

“Di Maria demanded a lot of money and preferred to leave in order to earn more elsewhere. The club simply couldn’t give him the money he wanted,” Ancelotti told Cadena Cope.

“There are times when a club has to say no. You cannot change the club’s policy for just one player.”

Di Maria has scored three goals and made three assists for United in the Premier League so far this season.
