Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Liverpool defender Jose Enrique won’t face former club Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Spanish left-back has missed the Reds’s games against Real Madrid, Hull City and Swansea City due to a knee problem.

And Rodgers revealed Enrique is still injured and won’t be part of his match day squad for the trip to St James Park.

“Jose is still not available, it’s just an issue with his knee,” Rodgers told his pre-match media conference.

“He won’t be available for the squad.”

Enrique missed most of the 2013/14 campaign due to a long-term knee injury before making his return to action at White Hart Lane in August.

The 28-year-old defender was present at Anfield on Tuesday night as Mario Balotelli and Dejan Lovren scored late goals to rescue a 2-1 win in the League Cup.

Enrique attended the Capital One Cup clash with his girlfriend and compatriot Suso, who is recovering from a groin operation.

The left-back posted on Instagram: “Watching the game.”
