Steven Gerrard defends Liverpool striker after Jamie Carragher criticism
The Liverpool captain says he has been impressed with Mario Balotelli
Steven Gerrard has defended Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli after criticism from former team-mate Jamie Carragher.
The Italy international answered his doubters with a strike in Liverpool’s dramatic 2-1 victory over Swansea in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.
You hear all kinds of stories and rumours before you meet him, but he does all the work. I like the guy
Balotelli has scored two goals in 12 appearances following his £16m move from AC Milan, prompting Carragher to claim the striker won’t be at the club next season.
However, Liverpool captain Gerrard claimed that he has actually been impressed with the 24-year-old forward since his arrival at Anfield.
“He just needs time to score the goals he needs to prove to people he is worthy of staying here,” Gerrard told the Daily Mail.
“I am not going to judge him after 10 games. To come in after Suarez was always going to be a big ask and he’s not feeling sorry for himself.
“He is working hard, doing extra shooting sessions.
“I’ve actually been impressed (with) the way he goes about his work.
