Chris Hughton says Tottenham Hotspur are showing some promising signs of improvement under Mauricio Pochettino.

Spurs set up a League Cup quarter-final clash against Newcastle United after a 2-0 victory over Championship side Brighton on Wednesday.

The north London side suffered a shock 2-1 defeat by Newcastle in the Premier League on Sunday, leaving Spurs in 11th place in the table.

But former Tottenham assistant manager Hughton pointed out that Pochettino’s men are a mere three points adrift of bitter rivals Arsenal.

Hughton told talkSPORT: “He is still settling in.

“He is just toying with what his best 11 is and we are only nine games into the season.

“At this particular moment, they are only three points behind Arsenal and there is a long way to go.

“He is still having that bedding in period, but there are some good signs.”
