Louis van Gaal says Radamel Falcao’s injury is not serious after the Manchester United striker missed their 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford.

The Colombia international didn’t feature in the matchday squad after picking up the knock in first-team training ahead of the visit of the leaders.

The Red Devils make the short trip to Etihad Stadium to face the defending Premier League champions Manchester City next weekend.

And Van Gaal, who saw Robin van Persie cancel out Didier Drogba’s opener on Sunday, is optimistic that the 28-year-old won’t be sidelined for too long.

Van Gaal also gave an update on Phil Jones’s injury status, too, appearing to suggest the centre-half could take longer to recover from shin splints.

United remain in eighth position in the Premier League table after their stalemate with Chelsea on Sunday.
