Video: Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers ‘eyeballs’ Carlo Ancelotti
Brendan Rodgers greets Real Madrid at Anfield
Brendan Rodgers may be gearing up for one of the biggest nights of his Liverpool career so far, but the Reds manager looked more than relaxed when he met Carlo Ancelotti at Anfield ahead of kick-off.
The Northern Irishman will be hoping his side can cause an upset and beat the Champions League holders to put themselves in a good position to qualify for the knockout stage after a 1-0 loss to Basel earlier this month.
And Rodgers brought a whole new meaning to the word “eyeballing” after the Liverpool manager embraced his Real Madrid contemporary, with an intense facial expression with eyebrows raised before giving the popular Italian a hug.
On Tuesday, the 41-year-old warned his Liverpool players that they can’t focus all their efforts on stopping prolific Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo, who has already scored 19 goals this season.
“He’s a player off the charts. His evolution in recent years, the way how he has become a goalscorer has been amazing,” Rodgers said.
“We need to know to stop him but there is danger in other parts of the field. You have (Luka) Modric, (Toni) Kroos – wonderful technicians who can play short, long.
“I’m also a big admirer of Sergio Ramos since his young days at Sevilla where he came through the system before making a move and then making to over 100 caps for Spain.”
