Steven Gerrard has told Luis Suarez that Liverpool miss him “very much” in a message delivered via video at an awards ceremony.

The Uruguay striker was picking up his Golden Boot award and Reds captain Gerrard paid tribute to the 26-year-old forward, who scored 33 Premier League goals for Liverpool last season before his summer transfer to Barcelona.

Gerrard said: “I’m really sorry I can’t be with you tonight to share the evening with Luis and his family.

“But what I would like to say is a huge congratulations from myself, Luis’s ex-team-mates and everybody connected to Liverpool Football Club.

“This is a very special award that you’re winning tonight, Luis. And it’s thoroughly deserved.

“You were unbelievable all season for us, a magical player, and Barcelona are very lucky to have your services moving forward.

“I hope you enjoy your evening and you’re award and I’m sure there are many more awards to come.

“Good luck for the future mate, we miss you very much. All the best.”
