Wenger gives latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Sunderland trip
Arsenal are set to be without Laurent Koscielny until late November, reveals Arsene Wenger
Laurent Koscielny is likely to be out of action until late November as the Arsenal defender continues to struggle with an Achilles injury, Arsene Wenger has revealed.
The centre-half has not featured for the Gunners since the 2-0 defeat at Chelsea earlier this month and Wenger confirmed that the France international would miss this weekend’s trip to Sunderland.
I’m not sure about involving Theo. Certainly next week
“I cannot give you any date because we go day by day with him at the moment,” Wenger said of Koscielny on Friday. “I hope he will be available after the next international break. Before that I don’t think so.”
Wenger also confirmed that Theo Walcott is approaching a return to action, although the Gunners boss is unsure whether he will call on the England international for Saturday’s visit to the Stadium of Light.
Walcott has not played for Arsenal’s first-team since suffering a knee ligament injury back in January.
“We have to check a few players but Jack Wilshere is suspended,” Wenger continued. “I’m not sure about involving Theo. Certainly next week.
“He [Walcott] has to get used to contact again. It takes time to get used to being kicked again. He has a game that exposes him and he needs to feel completely confident.
“Fitness-wise he is there to play a part in the game, on the contact front he needs a bit more time.
“After seeing what he has gone through over the last nine months you respect him more.”
