Angel di Maria: Why I joined Man United ahead of PSG
Angel di Maria suggests that he favoured a move to Paris Saint-Germain ahead of Manchester United
Angel di Maria has once again suggested that he favoured a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain ahead of Manchester United.
The Argentina international was linked with a big-money move to the French capital over the summer before he eventually joined United from Real Madrid in a club-record £59.7m deal.
Now, the 26-year-old has revealed that financial problems prevented the Ligue 1 club from being able to sign him before his switch to Old Trafford.
“PSG had a money problem and they couldn’t buy players,” Di Maria told Telefoot, referring to the Ligue 1 champions’ issues with Financial Fair Play.
“This is the main reason I didn’t go there. A lot of clubs were interested in me. But Manchester United appeared and didn’t go away. They absolutely wanted me and it happened.”
He added: “I don’t have regrets about leaving Real Madrid. It’s a different style at United but I’m happy.”
Di Maria has been one of United’s standout performers so far this season, scoring three goals and making five assists in the Premier League.
