Angel di Maria’s dip in form is down to Manchester United’s recent struggles, according to Argentina boss Gerardo Martino.

The 26-year-old started brightly at Old Trafford following his club-record £59.7m transfer to United from Real Madrid in the summer but has not scored in his last four appearances.

And Martino feels that United’s collective struggles could be affecting the winger.

Martino said: “I have to say that Angel is one of the very top players in world football. His start was exceptional.

“But generally when players go to a new club and have to get used to a new league, a new team, a different style of football and different team-mates, I think the form that he is showing now is possibly more typical of that player.

“On his current form, team performance, general level of play of the team can have something to do with it, with an individual performance.”

Argentina take on Portugal at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
