Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is a keen admirer of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane but has voiced his concern about the centre-half’s lack of playing time in Spain.

The highly-rated France international has been limited to just three starts in La Liga this season.

And although the Arsenal boss feels that Varane has the potential to become one of France’s best defenders, Wenger wants to see the 21-year-old gain more playing time for Los Blancos.

“If he doesn’t get injured, Varane will be France’s number one defender at Euro 2016,” Wenger told beIN Sports.

“He is still young, though, and he needs to play regularly at Real Madrid.

“At his age, he still makes mistakes that could cost the team goals.”

Should Arsene Wenger try and sign Raphael Varane?
