David Seaman has issued his backing for Wojciech Szczesny despite Arsenal’s stuttering defensive form this season.

The Gunners have been linked with a swoop for out-of-favour Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech in the January transfer window as Arsene Wenger considers adding competition for the Poland international at Emirates Stadium.

However, Arsenal legend Seaman does not feel that Szczesny’s form is to blame for the Gunners’ poor defensive record this term, with the north London club having conceded 13 goals in 11 Premier League games.

“Wojciech is coming off his best season last season with Arsenal and I don’t think that anybody warrants taking his place because he is not making mistakes,” Seaman told talkSPORT.

“Arsenal are conceding goals, but it is not through goalkeeping errors that they are conceding.”

Seaman won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups during his time at Arsenal.

Should Arsenal sign Petr Cech in January?
