Arsenal legend praises David De Gea ‘unbelievable’ progress at Man United
David Seaman lavishes praise on Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea
David Seaman has hailed David De Gea’s “unbelievable” progress at Manchester United.
The Red Devils shot stopper produced a man of the match performance at The Emirates as the Spaniard made eight saves to deny the Gunners.
He’s learning fast and he’s at a big club which helps. I would give him nine out of 10
Kieran Gibbs’s own goal and Wayne Rooney’s 81st-minute strike sealed three points despite substitute Olivier Giroud’s stoppage-time consolation strike.
And former Arsenal goalkeeper Seaman rates the United number one, highlighting his development since his early struggles at United in 2011/12 season.
“I like him a lot. He really struggled when he first came, made a couple of mistakes but shows character,” Seaman told Sky Sports.
“In a goalkeeper you look at how they are physically – can they cope with challenges all the time? Then reactions and shot-stopping are all guaranteed – people say to me ‘he’s a great shot-stopper’ but he’s a goalie, that’s what he should be!
“It’s the other stuff, like how you react from mistakes. He had a bad time when he first came but reacted in an unbelievable way.
“He’s learning fast and he’s at a big club which helps. I would give him nine out of 10.”
De Gea scooped United’s player of the month award for October after a series of impressive performances.
