Arsenal transfers: ‘Gunners need a centre-half and defensive midfielder’

David Seaman wants to see Arsenal bring in a defender and midfielder in the January transfer window

David Seaman has urged Arsenal to bring in a centre-half and defensive midfielder in the January transfer window.

Arsene Wenger’s side slumped to a 2-1 defeat by Manchester United at Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon to leave them eighth in the Premier League table.

Much has been made of Arsenal’s lack of cover at the back following Thomas Vermaelen’s sale to Barcelona in the summer.

And Seaman told Sky Sports: “[They need] a centre-half – you can’t go a season in the Premier League having a right-back or a left-back as a central defender.

“You get injuries, I can cope with that, but you let people go and you don’t replace them – that’s strange.

“And then I think we need a strong holding midfield player. Jack [Wilshere] played very well there for England but is it a waste of him going forward?”

What do Arsenal need more?
