Per Mertesacker has revealed that he has spoken to Sami Khedira about the possibility of him joining Arsenal.

The Germany midfielder was heavily linked with a move to the Gunners during the summer transfer window but a transfer failed to materialise.

Khedira’s Real Madrid contract expires next summer, and Arsenal defender Mertesacker says that both he and Mesut Ozil have spoken to the midfielder about the possibility of him joining the north London club.

“I’m up for more quality Germans joining the club,” said Mertesacker.

“Ozil and I spoke to Khedira a few times about joining Arsenal. His contract is up next summer.”

Speaking last week, the 27-year-old World Cup winner denied holding talks with any clubs about a potential move away from Real Madrid.

Where do you think Sami Khedira will be next season?
