Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger won’t budge on ideals, says Chelsea legend
Pat Nevin says Arsene Wenger isn't like Jose Mourinho or Sir Alex Ferguson
Pat Nevin has warned Arsenal supporters that Arsene Wenger won’t budge on his ideals.
The Gunners manager failed to adapt his tactics despite Swansea City winger Jefferson Montero handing Calum Chambers a testing 90 minutes at Liberty Stadium on Sunday.
You have to compare him to managers who change quickly – Van Gaal at his very best, we know Mourinho will change like lightening, Sir Alex would see a problem and fix it immediately
The north London side went on to lose 2-1 as Gylfi Sigurdsson cancelled out Alexis Sanchez’s opener before Bafetimbi Gomis netted a winner.
Speaking to Newstalk, Nevin was not surprised by Wenger’s lack of action on the touchline: “They seem to have some blind spots. They always seems to be defensive [about it].
“Whether or not he thought the solution was attack, if you put Oxlade-Chamberlain over there, what does it stop you doing? Going forward.
“Sometimes it is just so obvious. There are certain players and it is one-on-one, and you think, ‘you have to change it’.
“You have to compare him to managers who change quickly – Van Gaal at his very best, we know Mourinho will change like lightening, Sir Alex would see a problem and fix it immediately, and they might only be 1-0 down.
“Arsene sticks to his ideals and doesn’t budge.”
