Jack Wilshere has revealed that Arsene Wenger doesn’t feel the Arsenal midfielder is best-suited to a deeper role.

The England international has been used in an advanced role by the Gunners manager this season, seeing a return of one goal and one assist in eight Premier League appearances.

I enjoy my role for Arsenal as well because I can get a bit further forward

And the 23-year-old midfielder insisted that he enjoys his current role in Wenger’s side, allowing Wilshere to push forward and support the Arsenal attackers.

“The formation we play at Arsenal is a bit different,” Wilshere is quoted as saying.

“I wouldn’t mind playing it at Arsenal and I’ve already spoke to the manager about it but he doesn’t see me playing that role just yet.

“I enjoy my role for Arsenal as well because I can get a bit further forward, but I wouldn’t mind to play the holding role for Arsenal.

“That’s the manager’s decision. At the moment, I think [Mikel] Arteta is injured and [Mathieu] Flamini is playing that role. It’s down to him. If he wants me to play there, I’ll play it.”
