Arsene Wenger has revealed he tried to lure Paul Pogba to Arsenal before the France midfielder joined Juventus.

The 21-year-old has blossomed into one of Serie A’s biggest stars following his switch to the Turin outfit from Manchester United in 2012.

Pogba, who signed a new five-year deal in October, has scored 13 goals in 75 league appearances, helping Juventus to win Serie A in 2013 and 2014.

Arsenal’s critics and supporters have been urging Gunners manager Wenger to sign a defensive midfielder in recent seasons.

And the Frenchman lifted the lid on the north London side’s “complicated” attempts to sign the box-to-box midfielder.

“We were interested by Pogba when he was at Manchester United,” Wenger told beIn Sport. “I was surprised to see them let him go.

“We tried to get him, but it was complicated. We did not have the right to contact him.”

Pogba has scored five goals in 21 appearances for France.
