Arsene Wenger has revealed that Arsenal have opened negotiations with Theo Walcott over a contract extension at the north London club.

The 25-year-old forward’s current deal is set to expire in just over 18 months and Wenger is keen to tie the England international down to a new contract.

“We are starting to sit down with him,” Wenger said of Walcott’s situation.

“I think he has one-and-a-half years to go in December. It is never an easy job with him.

“It should be [his peak years]. Because he is 25, it is the best years, so hopefully we can profit from that.”

Walcott made his first appearance in over nine months against Burnley on Saturday after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The forward has scored 69 goals for the north London club in all competitions since joining from Southampton.
