Arsene Wenger described Alexis Sanchez as one of the few Arsenal players who were up to scratch during Tuesday’s 3-3 draw with Anderlecht.

The Chilean’s fine volley helped fire the Gunners into a 3-0 lead at Emirates Stadium but a second-half fightback from the visitors earned them a Champions League point in north London.

“He was involved in the three goals,” Wenger said of summer signing Sanchez. “He was one of the two or three players who were at their level.”

Asked whether Sanchez was frustrated to see Arsenal squander their lead, Wenger added: “Look, it’s the first time that we’ve given a three-goal lead away [since he’s been here].

“We need everybody to step up. I think you want everybody to perform at their best.

“I believe overall defensively as a performance across the pitch, we were very, very poor tonight.”

Did you see Anderlecht’s fightback coming?
