Arsene Wenger has criticised Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov for showing a lack of solidarity amid the current crisis at The Emirates.

The Gunners slumped to their second successive defeat as they lost 2-1 to Manchester United on Saturday after they failed to make a dominant first-half performance count.

The result prompted Usmanov, who owns over 30 per cent of the 13-time English champions, to claim that Arsenal manager Wenger doesn’t learn from his mistakes.

Although the Frenchman insisted he is prepared to accept criticism, the 65-year-old Gunners manager was unhappy with Usmanov’s decision to discuss the club’s struggles with the media.

“Look, I think first of all, in the 18 years I’ve been here, I’ve shown I can take criticism. Everybody has the right to have an opinion,” Wenger told his media conference ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.

“Having said that, we have values at this club. The first one is when you have a difficult period, you show solidarity.

“The second one, when you have something to say to each other you say it face-to-face. You don’t got the newspapers.”

Wenger added: “Believe me. I don’t take it personally at all. It is an opinion I respect.”
