Arsene Wenger has issued his backing for Mesut Ozil following the playmaker’s disappointing start to the season.

The World Cup winner is currently sidelined with a knee injury which is expected to keep him out of action until the new year.

Ozil came in for criticism for a number of below-par displays for the Gunners in the early stages of the season.

But Wenger is expecting to see the 26-year-old back in top form when he returns to action.

“I think, at Real, he played in a very strong team,” Wenger told BeIn Sports. He had a very good season with us last year.

“But he had the World Cup and came back tired. We will see the best Ozil when he returns.”

Ozil recently revealed that he is expecting to be out of action for another seven weeks.
