Owen Coyle is backing Brendan Rodgers to come through a difficult spell at Liverpool.

The Reds are languishing in 12th place in the Premier League table after a 3-1 defeat by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

Liverpool are five points behind fifth-placed Manchester United after their sixth defeat of the top-flight campaign.

But former Republic of Ireland international Coyle is confident that Rodgers will reverse the Merseyside club’s ailing fortunes.

“They’ve lost their edge. When you’re not scoring goals, it is important that you don’t concede,” Coyle told Sky Sports News.

“Brendan is an outstanding manager. I’ve got no doubts that he’ll get them through this difficult period and get them back to the level they were at.

“It is a difficult period but they’ve got to start scoring goals and winning games, because when you’re not scoring goals, defensively you feel vulnerable.

“Brendan will still retain the same belief that he has had throughout his managerial career. He had a difficult time at Reading and I’m sure he’ll use that experience now to help him at Liverpool.

“I’m pretty sure he can get that right.”

Can Brendan Rodgers reverse Liverpool’s fortunes?
