Mario Balotelli will succeed sooner or later, according to Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italy international has come under pressure since his £12m move to Anfield from AC Milan in the summer, failing to score in the Premier League this season.

Balotelli netted a reasonable 20 strikes in 54 top-flight appearances during a two-and-a-half year spell at Manchester City before returning to Italy in 2013.

And Ancelotti backed Balotelli to improve, revealing that he tried to sign the 24-year-old striker during his Paris Saint-Germain reign.

“He [Balotelli] has to find a place to feel at ease. Sooner or later he will succeed, but it depends on him – heaven helps those who help themselves,” Ancelotti told La Repubblica.

“Would I sign him? I was trying to at Paris Saint-Germain. He was coming off the back of an impressive European Championship.

“Then the opportunity for Ibrahimovic presented itself and we went more on the safe side.”
