Harry Kane justified calls for the striker to become a regular fixture in the Tottenham side after scoring a dramatic winner at Villa Park.

Villa midfielder Andreas Weimann broke the deadlock in the 16th minute with his first goal of the season before Belgian Nacer Chadli equalised with six minutes remaining.

And Kane, who replaced Emmanuel Adebayor midway through the second half, netted thanks to a deflected free-kick, prompting a flurry of Twitter reaction on Sunday evening.

Villa-supporting Olympian Katharine Merry (@KatharineMerry): “Sod the computer …VILLA LEAD……get in!”

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann (@DietmarHamann) doesn’t agree with the decision: “Harsh sending off for Benteke.”

Former Spurs chairman Lord Sugar (@Lord_Sugar) wants Kane to start on a regular basis: “Oh yes Kane scores now bloody start him in all PL games 1-2 Well we didn’t deserve that .but I hope MP realises Kane must start in future”

Tottenham legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) is thrilled to see the Spurs youngster score: “Kane is able. Tottenham turn things around.”

Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) reckons Mauricio Pochettino was right to give in to peer pressure: “Fans were right after all!”

Tennis player Jamie Murray (@jamie_murray): “Surely that goal from Harry Kane will finally force Pochetino to give him a starting place. Top young English striker too! #promise”

Finally, former Manchester City forward Vladimir Weiss (‏@VladiW7): “Happy for Pochettino!!”
